Samish Island Church

Samish Island didn't have its own church so Sunday morning saw people leaving the island to go to Edison or Bow for church. So some island women started up a meeting in their homes and finally in 1913 this church was built.

Little White church

A touching headstone.....

This Lutheran Church is in Silvana, part of Stanwood WA. It was built in 1884 and when its congregation out grew the Church, another one was built in town. This one is called the Little White Church on the Hill and is on the Historical Registry. It is used for wedding and funerals etc. It also has its own small cemetary. One certaintly can see the Scandanavian heritage in this valley.

Freeborn

This is the Freeborn Lutheran Church built in 1900. Freeborn was a small Norweigian farming community now part of Stanwood, WA. It now has 164 members but always welcoming any new-comers. The parsonage next door was built in the 20s and now is a day-care. The church has its own cemetary. Very picturesque.

Update: Bible and Rifle Church

The church was built in 1862 (the very same structure). A monument stands and says : In memory of the Beecher Bible and Rifle Colony which settled this area in 1856 and helped make Kansas a free state.
The well-known Rev. Henry Ward Beecher of Brooklyn and his congregation pledged and raised the money to send settlers to Kansas to establish the free state. Everyman got $25, a Sharps rifle and a bible.
There's way more to the whole history but this is a quick synopsis. MB

Blanchard

This is a little church is in the town of blanchard. The town was first called Fravel after the founder but when a new sawmill was opened up it was owned by a George Blanchard so the RR changed the name. Blanchard was a logging, fishing and oyster town built on the bay. This church used to be a Methodist denomination and was built in 1911. It is now a Country Chapel where weddings and events like that are held.

The past remains

This is the Fir/Conway Lutheran Church built in the 1800s. The town of Fir built on the banks of the Skagit River burned to the ground in1893--the only building left is the church. Conway is right across the river and still exists. I don't know what happened to the smaller church but the house you see in the background is still there.
