Painted churches of Texas
This is St Mary's Catholic church in High Hill. It is built on nine acres deeded to the church in 1868. It is a classic example of the Gothic revival style with its beautiful artwork and stained glass windows. The churches and there about 15 are painted bt itinerant laborers and the colors are as vivid today as they were over 100 years ago.

Beauty in the Grove
Vanessa sent this photo of this beautiful Church for all to view:
Little Grove United Methodist Church
Frisco, NC (Hatteras Island)
Originally called Trent Methodist, the building was destroyed in the 1933 hurricane.
This building was built in 1939 and dedicated in July 1940---it is still going strong.
Thanks Vanessa

Avon
This is Avon Methodist Church. Originally built in the late 1880s and it has been in continual use ever since. It is a beautiful church and that is my car right beside it. It is on Avon-Allen rd. In the late 1800s when all these little towns were founded they each had their own church although they were just a few miles apart. well until the whole area was diked and drained travel specially in the winter was by canoe or you would just get stuck in the mud.

Downtown Everett, WA
Calvary Lutheran in Everett, Wa. It is on the same St. that the other two churches are on. In fact I think they are only blocks apart. All three churches were built around the same time.
First Presbyterian of Everett. An odd angle. You can see the older part with the spire and the newer closer. Also downtown Everett.
Central Lutheran church in Everett, WA. Pop. 95,000. This church dates back to early Everett pre 1900,and has been in continuous use. It is right downtown. You can see it has been added onto over the years.

Little White church
A touching headstone.....
This Lutheran Church is in Silvana, part of Stanwood WA. It was built in 1884 and when its congregation out grew the Church, another one was built in town. This one is called the Little White Church on the Hill and is on the Historical Registry. It is used for wedding and funerals etc. It also has its own small cemetary. One certaintly can see the Scandanavian heritage in this valley.

Freeborn
This is the Freeborn Lutheran Church built in 1900. Freeborn was a small Norweigian farming community now part of Stanwood, WA. It now has 164 members but always welcoming any new-comers. The parsonage next door was built in the 20s and now is a day-care. The church has its own cemetary. Very picturesque.

Update: Bible and Rifle Church
The church was built in 1862 (the very same structure). A monument stands and says : In memory of the Beecher Bible and Rifle Colony which settled this area in 1856 and helped make Kansas a free state.
The well-known Rev. Henry Ward Beecher of Brooklyn and his congregation pledged and raised the money to send settlers to Kansas to establish the free state. Everyman got $25, a Sharps rifle and a bible.
There's way more to the whole history but this is a quick synopsis. MB

Blanchard
This is a little church is in the town of blanchard. The town was first called Fravel after the founder but when a new sawmill was opened up it was owned by a George Blanchard so the RR changed the name. Blanchard was a logging, fishing and oyster town built on the bay. This church used to be a Methodist denomination and was built in 1911. It is now a Country Chapel where weddings and events like that are held.

The past remains
This is the Fir/Conway Lutheran Church built in the 1800s. The town of Fir built on the banks of the Skagit River burned to the ground in1893--the only building left is the church. Conway is right across the river and still exists. I don't know what happened to the smaller church but the house you see in the background is still there.

Who is watching?
This is the Catholic church in Laconner, WA. It is a town built on a channel and was a busy fishing, logging and shipping village until the railroad bypassed it and things could be shipped by rail not schooners. The town lay dormant for many years and left untouched so a majority of old building remain and in good condition. It is now a thriving antique and tourist town. Upscale! This church was built in the late 1800s. I thought the sun made for cool lighting.

The Church Lady
This church is in Edison, right in the little town. It is not a church anymore. It was at one time a Catholic church. I talked to the lady who lived there and she said it was one of the first buildings in Edison and the town was founded in1869. Most of the old buildings are still in use in town. It is a cute, funky town.
She did say everyone should live in a church. I didnt ask anymore questions.
